Due to consistent local demand in the passenger, utility, and commercial vehicle segments, India's automotive industry reported robust sales in May 2026. Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest-ever monthly sales of 2,42,688 units, comprising 41,914 export and 1,93,535 domestic units. Hyundai Motor India sold 61,137 units, with 47,837 units sold domestically and a 13% increase to 99,739 vehicles in the first two months of FY27. Improving economic conditions, growing rural demand, and a predilection for feature-rich cars all contributed to growth. Mahindra & Mahindra reported 99,636 vehicle sales, a 20% increase, with robust growth in utility vehicles and tractors. In FY27, Toyota Kirloskar Motor sold 33,128 units, up 7%, and more than three lakh Strong Hybrid Electric Vehicles, demonstrating the growing popularity of cleaner mobility and bolstering the growth of India's car industry.
