Summary:

The Centre has targeted construction of 26,474 km of rural roads in FY27 with an allocation of Rs. 18,907 crore under PMGSY and related schemes. A review meeting led by Rural Development Secretary Rohit Kansal assessed progress under PMGSY and RCPLWEA, emphasising faster completion of unconnected habitations, particularly in remote and tribal regions. The Government prioritised connectivity for Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups through improved DPR preparation, timely land acquisition and stronger coordination among agencies. Focus was also placed on completing projects in Maoist-affected areas, maintaining infrastructure quality and ensuring effective road upkeep. Wider adoption of the e-MARG platform will enhance transparency, monitoring, payment tracking and efficiency, supporting reliable all-weather rural connectivity across India.
