Summary:
Kashmir's handcrafted goods exports surpassed Rs. 300 crore (US$ 34.75 million) in the first quarter of FY26, the highest in four years. The Handicrafts and Handloom Department recorded exports of Rs. 309.62 crore (US$ 35.87 million), up from Rs. 126.90 crore (US$ 14.70 million) in the first quarter of previous year. The department hopes to exceed Rs. 1,500 crore (US$ 173.77 million) in FY26, depending on global conditions. Kani, Sozni shawls, hand-knotted carpets, papier mache, crewel, and wood carving are among the most popular exports. Exporters are urged to use the 10% Export Subsidy Scheme. The government also assists artists with design improvements from the School of Designs and Craft Development Institute and packaging methods from the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology.
