Summary:
Over the past 12 years, the Khadi and Village Industries sector in India has experienced historic growth in employment, sales, and production. Sales hit Rs. 1.87 lakh crore and output hit Rs. 1.25 lakh crore in 2025–2026, representing increases of 501% and 380%, respectively, since 2013–14. The sector was greatly promoted by government programs including Local to Global, Vocal for Local, and Aatmanirbhar Bharat. Village industry sales reached Rs. 1,79,236 crore, while Khadi textile sales climbed from Rs. 1,081 crore to Rs. 7,869 crore. The number of individuals employed increased from 1.30 crore to 2.04 crore. Over 7.31 lakh employment were created by 66,494 new units under PMEGP. Additionally, KVIC strengthened local manufacturing and entrepreneurship in rural areas by providing toolkits, distributing machines, and offering women-focused skill development programs.
