Summary:
By increasing investment, increasing production capacity, and bolstering India's global food presence, the Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for the Food Processing Industry has become a significant growth engine. It encourages businesses to expand operations and boost value addition by tying incentives to incremental sales. In order to ensure inclusive growth, the program also supports MSMEs and encourages cutting-edge goods such foods made from millet. Implemented from 2021–2022 to 2026–2027, it was introduced in April 2020 with an investment of Rs. 10,900 crore (US$1.17 billion). It aims for 2.5 lakh jobs and a production of Rs. 33,400 crore. By February 2026, 165 proposals from 274 locations had been granted, resulting in an investment of Rs. 920 crore and the creation of 3.39 lakh employment.
