Summary:

The Ministry of Minority Affairs has introduced several initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare and advancement of minority communities. One of the key programs, the Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan (PM VIKAS) Scheme, consolidates five previous schemes to provide comprehensive support in areas such as skill development, entrepreneurship for minority women and educational assistance for school dropouts. In a significant move to enhance financial support, the National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC) has increased the annual family income limit under Credit Line 1 to Rs. 3 lakh (US$ 3,503) per year for both rural and urban beneficiaries.

Infrastructure development remains a key focus through the Pradhan Mantri Jan Vikas Karyakram (PMJVK), the Ministry’s flagship initiative. This program targets minority-concentrated areas to create community infrastructure and reduce social, economic and cultural disparities through a convergence model. Additionally, the Buddhist Development Program (BDP) has been introduced as a pilot initiative to accelerate the socio-economic progress of the Buddhist community. This program prioritizes infrastructure development in critical sectors such as education, healthcare, sports and renewable energy across the Himalayan Belt, spanning regions from Ladakh to Sikkim. These combined efforts reflect the Ministry's commitment to fostering inclusive growth and empowering minority communities.
