Within 24 hours of its launch, over 1.55 lakh people enrolled in the Prime Minister Internship Scheme, surpassing the target of 1.25 lakh applications. According to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, 1,55,109 individuals have registered on the platform. The internships, open to students aged 21-24, will begin on December 2 and provide monthly support of ₹5,000 (US$59.49) for 12 months, along with a one-time grant of ₹6,000 (US$71.39). The pilot project is expected to cost ₹800 crore (US$95.2 million).
In just one week, the platform has advertised over 80,000 internship positions across 24 sectors, including oil, gas, energy, travel, hospitality, and automotive. This program aims to connect individuals with internships at India’s top 500 corporations using a fair and technology-driven approach. Interns are selected through Aadhaar-based registration, and the platform offers useful features such as bio-data creation for easy access to internships across various sectors.
