Summary:

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that railways will be fully electrified by FY26, with over 97% already completed. The government aims for net-zero emissions by 2030. Railways has secured 1,500 MW of renewable energy capacity, including a recently signed 170 MW power purchase agreement with Madhya Pradesh. Railways, Waree Energies, and Rewa Ultra Mega Solar Ltd (RUMSL) are part of the agreement.

Railways is ready to procure stable renewable energy from Madhya Pradesh, including wind and nuclear power if available. Vaishnaw expressed interest in similar agreements with other states. Madhya Pradesh has received a record railway budget of Rs. 14,745 crore for FY26. Railway line construction has increased from 29.3 km to 223 km annually, with funding growing 23 times. A total investment of Rs. 1,04,000 crore is currently underway.
