According to Sensor Tower statistics, India has emerged as the main market for AI mobile app adoption, accounting for 21% of worldwide downloads, which are expected to surpass 2.2 billion in the first eight months of 2024. Popular AI applications include ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, and Google Gemini. However, many Indian users may use these applications for free. North America and Europe accounted for 68% of AI app sales, while India contributed less than 2%. Total income from AI applications is expected to reach US$ 3.3 billion in 2024, up 51% from 2023.

 

In 2023, global downloads of AI and chatbot applications increased by more than 14 times over the previous year, reaching almost 600 million and surpassing 630 million by August 2024. ChatGPT received the most downloads, followed by Remini, Photoroom AI Photo Editor, and Google Gemini. Neil Shah, co-founder of Counterpoint Research, noted the growing usage of consumer chatbots for transcription, translation, and summarization, indicating a transition towards an "appless ecosystem" based on AI processing.
