On December 24, 2024, Union Minister Pralhad Joshi announced several consumer protection initiatives, including an AI-powered helpline and tools to identify misleading marketing tactics. Major e-commerce companies such as Reliance Retail, Tata Sons, and Zomato have pledged to enhance online shopping safety. The initiatives include an AI-powered National Consumer Helpline, the e-Maap portal, and the Jago Grahak Jago mobile app, designed to empower consumers and expedite dispute resolution.

 

The National Consumer Day event highlighted India’s notable progress in resolving consumer complaints, with 6,587 cases settled between January and November 2024 compared to 3,628 new cases filed. The e-Daakhil Portal, fully implemented in states like Karnataka, Punjab, and Rajasthan, enables online complaint submissions. The Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) is drafting new guidelines for surrogate advertising and has issued notices to 13 organizations, emphasizing the potential of digital solutions.
