Summary:
Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that nearly a million gig workers have registered on the e-Shram platform, with an additional 3-4 million expected to register in the next three months. Registered workers are eligible for healthcare benefits under PM-JAY, as well as other social security programs such as PM-SYM, PMJJBY, PMSBY, and APY. This aligns with the Budget announcement and aims to improve the wellbeing of gig workers.
The Centre has urged states and Union Territories to take immediate action to protect workers from extreme heatwave conditions. Measures to prevent heat illnesses include adjusting working hours to avoid peak heat, providing drinking water, shaded rest areas, ventilation, and cooling at worksites, arranging regular health check-ups, and distributing emergency ice packs and heat illness prevention materials
