Summary:

India's seafood exporters are ready to ship 35,000-40,000 tonnes of prawns to the United States following President Donald Trump's decision to postpone a planned 26% reciprocal tax. The reduction to a 10% tariff has provided significant relief, allowing delayed shipments to be processed. Mr. K. N. Raghavan, Secretary General of the Seafood Exporters Association of India, confirmed that around 2,000 containers of prawns are now ready for export.

On April 9, 2025, a temporary 90-day tariff relief was announced, with all countries subject to a 10% blanket duty except China, which faces a 145% tariff. Indian prawn exports to the United States are currently subject to a 17.7% effective tariff, which includes countervailing and antidumping duties. This respite allows exporters to fulfill orders without incurring additional financial strain. India's prawn exports to the United States were valued at Rs. 23,247 crore (US$ 2.7 billion) in FY24.
