Summary:
Passenger vehicle (PV) sales in India reached a record 4.3 million units in FY25, marking a 2% increase over FY24, according to SIAM. Utility Vehicles (UVs) remained the primary growth driver, accounting for 65% of total PV sales. New model launches, innovative features, and attractive promotional offers fuelled consumer demand. PV exports rose 14.6% to 7.7 lakh units, driven by strong global demand and strengthening India's footprint in Latin America, Africa, and select developed markets.
The Indian automobile sector recorded a 7.3% growth in domestic sales and a 19.2% rise in exports. Two-wheeler sales rebounded, with 19.6 million units sold in FY25, reflecting a 9.1% year-on-year increase—led by scooters, enhanced rural connectivity, and product innovation. Electric vehicles (EVs) gained further momentum, now accounting for over 6% of total two-wheeler sales. Twowheeler exports rose 21.4% to 4.2 million units, supported by strong demand from Africa and Latin America. SIAM projects continued growth in FY26, supported by stable macroeconomic conditions, favorable policies, infrastructure development, and a normal monsoon forecast.
