Summary:

India has delivered the second battery of its supersonic BrahMos missile system to the Philippines, as part of a ₹3,202 crore (US$375 million) agreement signed in 2022. The BrahMos, jointly developed by India’s DRDO and Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia, can be launched from land, sea, or air and reaches speeds of up to Mach 2.8. Currently, 83% of its components are indigenously produced.

The Philippines is the first country to sign a deal with India for the BrahMos missile, while nations including Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, the UAE, Chile, and South Africa have also expressed interest. This marks a strategic shift in defence diplomacy, particularly in regions influenced by China. The growing global interest underscores India’s emergence as a significant player in the international arms export arena.
