Summary:

India is rapidly positioning itself as a global frontrunner in the adoption of Agentic Artificial Intelligence (AI), with over 80% of businesses actively exploring the development of autonomous agents, according to Deloitte’s State of Generative AI (Fourth Wave) report. Autonomous agents are AI-driven systems capable of operating independently to accomplish specific objectives without requiring constant human oversight. The report underscores a growing emphasis on multi-agent workflows, where sub-agents function under the supervision of a master agent to execute complex, goal-oriented tasks. Significantly, 50% of Indian enterprises have prioritised these workflows, while 70% are leveraging Generative AI (GenAI) for automation, with more than half conducting over ten GenAI experiments.

However, despite this momentum, several challenges persist. AI-generated errors (36%), issues related to bias and hallucinations (30%) and concerns over data quality (30%) are among the key barriers to widespread deployment. Additionally, 28% of businesses fear their AI models could become obsolete within two years due to reliance on pre-built, off the shelf solutions. Nevertheless, Indian enterprises remain confident in overcoming these obstacles through targeted investments in scalable AI ecosystems and agile innovation strategies. Strengthening AI governance and ensuring adaptability will be vital for sustaining India’s leadership in this rapidly evolving domain.
